History

Gem. und Dorf. Siegel: ein Patriarchenkreuz. In der Umgegend römische Spuren und Alamannengräber. Kirchlich bildet W. eine römisch-kathol. Kirchgem. mit Mumpf und eine christ-kathol. Kirchgem. mit Oberm umpf. Politisch gehörte der Ort in österreichischer Zeit zur Herrschaft Rheinfelden, dann zur Landschaft Möhlinbach und teilte die Geschicke des Fricktals bis zu dessen Uebergang an den Kt. Aargau.
