History

Gem. und Dorf. Villano comilis 1147. Der Ort unterstand im Mittelalter dem Bischof von Lausanne; die Kirche gehörte 1182 dem Domkapitel. Eine gleichnamige Familie zählt 1147 zu den Wohltätern der Abtei Montheron. Der Name selbst rührt vielleicht von den einstigen Grafen der Waadt her. Die der hl. Jungfrau geweihte Kirche wurde später eine Tochterkirche von Thierrens, 1828 derjenigen von Denezy. Im 18. Jahrh. litt das Dorf mehrmals unter schweren Bränden. — DHV. [M. R.] VILLARS LE GRAND
