Gem. und Dorf. Vilars 1141; Vilaret devant Goumoëns 1228; Villart le Terrioux 1438. V. besass eine der Abtei Montbenoît unterstehende Kapelle, die 1228 Pfarrkirche wurde, aber 1285 wieder zur Filiale von Échallens herabsank. Das Dorf selbst ging von den Herren de Goumoëns an das Haus Savoyen als Lehen der Kastlanei Échallens über. Die Güter der Abtei Montbenoît wurden im 15. Jahrh. Eigentum der Abtei Joux, während infolge einer besondern Stiftung der Zehnten dem Dominikanerkloster von Lausanne gehörte. Die St. Nikolauskirche wurde 1847 wieder Pfarrkirche, erfuhr 1908 eine gründliche Restauration und dient jetzt dem katholischen wie dem protestantischen Gottesdienst. 1262 tritt ein nach dem Orte benanntes Edelgeschlecht auf, das anfangs des 14.
